EV grants for landlords: Everything you need to know



Residential and commercial landlords are now able to claim funding for buying and installing EV chargepoints in rental and leasehold properties.


Residential landlords are now also able to claim 200 grants per year, each worth 75% of the cost of purchase and installation – up to £350.


The new grant replaces the old EVHS scheme and will run until 2024. It’s open to all relevant landlords across UK and Ireland.

Who can apply?


You can apply if you are one of the following:

  • landlord with property that they let

  • right to manage (RTM) company

  • residents’ management company (RMC)

  • company owning the freehold of a property

  • company owning a building’s common areas, including shareholders who are the property’s leaseholders

  • property factor in Scotland

  • private registered provider of social housing (PRP)

  • public authority, such as government departments and their agencies, the armed forces, local government, the NHS and emergency services

  • charity managing or owning residential property

The landlord must be a UK registered company, charity or public sector organisation to apply. They will need either their:

  • Companies House company registration number

  • VAT registration number

Residential landlords can claim up to 200 grants per financial year, while commercial landlords can claim up to 100.


How can I apply?


To apply just fill in the registration form and send it to landlordaccounts@dvla.co.uk.If you are eligible, you will be given a landlord registration number. You can then choose an OZEV-approved installer to work with who will apply for the grant on your behalf.


Later in the year the Government will be launching a digital portal, making applying for a grant easier.
