Who Can Carry out an EICR Inspection?
For complete assurance a Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) needs to be performed by the correct person or company.
This article will look at what facilities managers should look for in an EICR provider, as well as explaining why Protest ES Ltd are trusted by facilites managers nationwide.
Who is able to perfrom an EICR report?
The best way to keep your electrical installation in order and stay compliant with the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) is to have regular EICR reports.
Non-compliance could result in injury to staff or visitors and could compromise your insurance cover.
There are no legal requirements when it comes to who can perform an EICR report. However, the government does say that the person or company must be ‘qualified and competent’.
What does 'qualified and competent' mean?
A qualified person has the skills and the knowledge to perform an EICR test, a qualified person has competence, experience, insurance and qualifications.
A competent person has no qualifications regarding the task they are performing. They may be able to perform the task set, however a poor job may be perfromed costing you money in the long term.
You should be looking for a lot more than basic competence and qualifications to provide a thorough visual and physical inspection of your electrical components. All Protest ES Ltd electricians are qualified and experienced in performing EICR tests as well as knowledge of the Electricity at Work Regulations (1989) and the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974).
We recommend looking for accreditations before choosing a company/person to perform EICR testing. NICEIC and Safecontractor are two big trust-marks for an EICR, SafeContractor provides more general assurance that inspectors are operating in line with the relevant health and safety legislation.
