UK announce zero daily deaths for the first time since the pandemic began
Updated: Jun 3, 2021
Yesterday was a remarkable day, for the first time since the pandemic began, the UK recorded and announced an astonishing zero daily deaths rate.
These figures were collected from a 28 day period after a positive test. Interestingly enough, these stats came in the wake of a slight concern in a recent rise in cases regarding the variant believed to have originated in India. Important to factor in that daily deaths have on average, been lower at the weekends and at the start of a week.
This due to the fact that there tends to be less counting’s at these times as statisticians are off. Bank holiday will also have undoubtedly been a factor in lessening figures too.
Matt Hancock, the UK’s health secretary, stated that this news would make the nation “so glad” to hear. Adding “The vaccines are clearly working, protecting you those around you and your loved ones.
“But despite this undoubtedly good news we know we haven’t beaten this virus yet, and with cases continuing to rise please remember hands, face, space and let in fresh air when indoors, and of course make sure when you can you get both jabs.”
Dr Yvonne Doyle, Director of Public Health England, was quick to second what Hancock had said, stating that the figures were definitely “encouraging” whilst also calling for more people to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
