Faulty electric heater leads to explosion at fireworks factory
Thousands of fireworks were sent into the sky when a fireworks factory was set alight causing all of the fireworks within it to also ignite. This set off a mass explosion that needed as many as 400 firefighters to rush to the rescue and help extinguish the blaze.
In footage from the incident that was captured on witnesses smartphones, the big blast is visible along with the vast colours that lit up the sky from the many different and uncontrollable fireworks that had been unintentionally ignited.
The fire originated in a small market close to the factory, before spreading across to the factory and devastating the building that was packed with celebratory fireworks in time for Christmas and New Years.
The incident was recorded on camera by members of the local emergency department and subsequently posted online by Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations:
Luckily, there were no casualties from the fire, mainly due to the fact that it occurred in the early hours of the morning when the market was essentially empty. However, there was still significant damage done to multiple buildings, with flames that were thought to have spread across 4,000 square metres.
