Tips for staying safe in spooky season!
Halloween is a time where there are many electrical devices that are being used with electrical powered decorations, costumes and lighting all being fundamental themes of Halloween.
Below we have provided a few tips that can help you with electrical safety at Halloween.
Use Fire-Resistant materials
Where possible, opt for electrical or battery-powered candles instead of traditional flame candles to avoid a fire. Electrical, or LED, candles can be used for indoor and outdoor decorations. Also, look for decorations, costumes and accessories that are made with flame-resistant, flame-retardant or non-combustible materials.
Unplug your Halloween Signs
Always unplug lights and electric displays before going to bed or while away. Like other appliances, it’s not safe to leave decorative lights and displays on while you’re gone, as they could cause a fire.
Be mindful of Extension Cords
Indoor and outdoor extension cords are rated differently. Use the right cord for the right location. Make sure cords can handle the amperage indicated on your electrical devices, and avoid multi-outlet adaptor connections which can overload your outlet.
Never put Nails in Wires
Do not nail, staple, or fasten a wire through the wire. Damaging the wire or the insulation around the wire could lead to an electrical shock or fire. If for any reason wires need to be suspended (i.e. string lights), use hooks to hold the wire in place.
Consider Switching to energy efficient LED lights
LED Lights produce less heat, reducing the risk of fire. LED light bulbs can last up to 20 times longer than standard forms of lighting such as incandescent bulbs or halogen bulbs, which has a very positive effect on the environment.
Watch out for Ghosts and Ghouls
Make sure to watch out for those freaky creatures that could scare you in the night, and remember to treat, never trick.
