“Food for thought, this does not “meat” legal compliance” Cat 1 discovered in UK Food Manufacturer

Our engineers were recently carrying out an EICR (fixed wire testing) and additional thermal imaging when they discovered this serious Cat 1 defect inside the factory of a UK leading food manufacturer and distributor.

The picture above shows a three phase circuit that was overheating, our engineers could physically feel the heat from this and noticed the acrid smell.

To add to the seriousness of this, the distribution board was found unlocked and located inside the factory so was easily accessible by staff or visitors.

The distribution board also fed machinery that processed food 24 hours a day, any loss of production due to breakdown would cost tens of thousands of pounds per hour to this site.

These cables were overheating so there was a real danger of fire or personal injury and production machinery breakdown.

Upon discovery our engineers informed the client immediately and this was made safe free of charge there and then.

Unless EICR (fixed wire testing) and thermal imaging are carried out on a regular basis then dangerous situations such as this can often go unnoticed. Leaving staff, buildings, and loss of business at severe risk.
