A closer look at the NICEIC

Back in 2018 it was revealed by Electrical Safety First that at least 30% of UK consumers would consider using unregistered electrical contractors. This kind of statistic is worrying as poor standard of work completed by unregistered electrical contractors can not only be putting small scale households safety in jeopardy, but also in a larger commercial premises, the safety of hundred and even thousands of people could be compromised.

At Protest ES Ltd we are very proud to be registered members of of the NICEIC (National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting). This is the UK's leading voluntary regulatory body for the electrical contracting industry in the UK.

Below we look at some of the main benefiting features that come with using a contractor that is NICEIC approved.

The NICEIC supply both assessment and certification services for contractors all across the construction sector. Helping assess electricians, plumbers, builders, renewable energy installers, as well as gas and heating engineers. They carry out very stringent assessments of the standard of works including the competence of key supervisory staff, document keeping, headquarters of the company and also the equipment used by all engineers.

Electrical contractors registered with the NICEIC can be trusted to self-certify any work that requires notification under the Building Regulations, to the relevant Local Building Control Body, saving the customer both time and money.

Any customer receiving works from a registered NICEIC contractor can be sure to have a complete piece of mind. This because when you use an NICEIC registered contractor, if you are for whatever reason unhappy with the works provided, and it is deemed deficient by the NICEIC, the works will be put right via the independent complaints procedure, at zero extra cost.

As previously stated many times before, registration with the NICEIC is a somewhat real badge of honour and a mark of quality. It offers assurance to any client that the works undertaken by the contractor will be completed not only to a safe standard, but also an extremely high standard. Our advice to any individual, business, or organisation, is that they should always first check that the service provider they are considering, definitely has NICEIC accreditation and also that they can prove it!

Don't forget - you can also check if that contractor is legitimately approved by the NICEIC via the NICEIC website "Find a contractor" page, that link can be found here.
