FAULT FINDINGS

We have an extensive background in undertaking a wide variety of different projects, from electrical compliance and install, as well as fire safety and building maintenance. Below we document some of the findings that we encountered at various sites, with a back story of the initial problems and the solutions that we were able to provide.

“This rat was not on the menu” Cat 1 discovered in a UK leading fast food chain restaurant

Our engineers were recently carrying out EICR (fixed wire testing), PAT testing and emergency light testing when they discovered this serious Cat 1 defect on site at a UK leading fast food chain restaurant.

The picture, which has been edited for obvious reasons but sadly shows a dead rat that had been electrocuted inside a main distribution board within the restaurant.

To add to the seriousness of this, the distribution board was found unlocked and located inside the kitchens on site so was easily accessible by staff and was very near to food preparation areas and production.

The distribution board also fed machinery that processed and cooked fast food so any loss of production due to breakdown would cost this business tens of thousands of pounds per day.

The dead rat was found across main circuit breakers that was in turn causing kitchen production equipment to trip out.

Upon discovery our engineers informed the client immediately and this was made safe free of charge there and then and the animal was disposed of in a humane manner.

“Shocking” Cat 1 discovered in well know

“Shocking” Cat 1 discovered in well known major retail store

Whilst on site inside a well known major retail store, our engineers were carrying out an EICR (fixed wire testing) and they discovered this serious Cat 1 defect.

The picture to the left shows 2 x RCBOs which were still live and the cables had been left snipped and exposed, the distribution board cover was unlocked.

These cables still had live outgoing ends so there was a real danger of electric shock or fire.

Upon discovery our engineers informed the client immediately and the live cables were removed and made safe, free of charge there and then.

“No Duty of Care in Care Home” Cat 1 dis

“No Duty of Care in Care Home” Cat 1 discovered in UK leading Care Home provider

Whilst on site this week inside a care home on behalf of a UK leading care home provider, our engineers were carrying out an EICR (fixed wire testing) and they discovered this serious Cat 1 defect.

The picture on the left shows cables which were found to be still live, the cables had been left snipped and fully exposed. To add to the seriousness of this, the distribution board was found unlocked and located in a corridor so was easily accessible.

These cables were still live so there was a real danger of electrical shock, injury or fire.

Upon discovery our engineers informed the client immediately and the live cables were removed and made safe, free of charge there and then.

Unless EICR (fixed wire testing) is carried out on a regular basis then dangerous situations such as this can often go unnoticed.

“Food for thought, this does not “meat” legal compliance” Cat 1 discovered in UK leading Food Manufacturer

Our engineers were recently carrying out an EICR (fixed wire testing) and additional thermal imaging when they discovered this serious Cat 1 defect inside the factory of a UK leading food manufacturer and distributor.

The picture on the left shows a three phase circuit that was overheating, our engineers could physically feel the heat from this and noticed the acrid smell.

To add to the seriousness of this, the distribution board was found unlocked and located inside the factory so was easily accessible by staff or visitors.

The distribution board also fed machinery that processed food 24 hours a day, any loss of production due to breakdown would cost tens of thousands of pounds per hour to this site.

These cables were overheating so there was a real danger of fire or personal injury and production machinery breakdown.

Upon discovery our engineers informed the client immediately and this was made safe free of charge there and then.

Unless EICR (fixed wire testing) and thermal imaging are carried out on a regular basis then dangerous situations such as this can often go unnoticed. Leaving staff, buildings, and loss of business at severe risk.

“Client needs ‘educating’ on their legal compliance” serious PAT Testing fault discovered in major UK University

Our engineers were recently carrying out portable appliance testing within a large very well known university when they discovered this serious defect inside a classroom.

The below picture shows the plug overheating as tin foil has been used to replace the plug fuse. To add to the seriousness of this, the plug was in normal everyday use by staff and students inside a classroom.

There was a severe danger of fire due to overheating or personal injury through electrical shock.

Upon discovery our engineers informed the client immediately and this was then made safe free of charge.

Unless portable appliance testing is carried out on a regular basis then dangerous situations such as this can often go unnoticed leaving staff and buildings at severe risk of personal injury or fire.
